Together with Hida Sangyo, a manufacturer of Windsor chairs since 1951, we researched and developed a lightweight version of the chair, using inherited factory techniques to explore a simple and light impression. The back of the chair is 10 cm taller than a typical Windsor chair to balance the overall proportions to make a moderate statement in relation to the space. The seat is fitted with an easily removable cushion to add enjoyment to the interior. The name “Awase” was derived from the idea of “combining” two or more elements into one, such as combining western and eastern cultures and new values with traditional ones.
